Richmond CoStar Hokies closed out the year with networking and nostalgia.

CoStar Hokies from the Richmond area came together for an end-of-year happy hour featuring food, drinks, fun swag, and prizes. Alumni shared fond Virginia Tech memories while connecting across departments and engaging with CoStar leaders, making it a meaningful evening of networking and Hokie camaraderie.


Deloitte Hokies gather for fall alumni town hall

October 22, 2025

Deloitte Hokies came together this fall for a hybrid Virginia Tech Alumni Town Hall, connecting both in person and online to celebrate their shared Hokie spirit. Guest speaker Brandon Hendricks from Virginia Tech Dining Services gave an inside look at what it takes to keep one of the nation’s top dining programs running every day.

He shared eye-opening statistics about the scale of campus dining and insights into Perry Place at Hitt Hall, which has quickly become a cornerstone of the Virginia Tech dining experience. The conversation sparked meaningful dialogue and left attendees feeling re-energized about their Hokie connections and community at Deloitte.


General Motors (GM) Hokie Network Professional Development Series Speaker

The GM Hokie Network continued its professional development series with a dynamic virtual session, “Building Bridges Through Story: Leading and Following,” led by Patricia Raun, Director of the Center for Communicating Science and Alumni Distinguished Professor of Theatre Arts at Virginia Tech.

The session explored storytelling as a universal language for connection and collaboration, offering participants tools to enhance communication across diverse teams. Drawing on techniques from the performing arts, the interactive workshop encouraged attendees to practice active listening, embrace different perspectives, and use storytelling to strengthen relationships and teamwork.

The program reinforced the value of shared understanding as a driver of effective leadership and collaboration, furthering the mission of the GM Hokie Network to deliver meaningful opportunities for professional growth and connection.


Virginia Tech Alumni Launch New Corporate Network at CoStar Group

More than 70 Virginia Tech alumni gathered at CoStar Group’s Richmond office to celebrate the launch of the company’s new Alumni Corporate Network. Attendees from research, sales, technology, and other departments enjoyed an evening of connection, conversation, and Hokie spirit. This marks Virginia Tech’s 15th Alumni Corporate Network, part of an ongoing effort to unite alumni within their workplaces for networking, professional development, and community-building. The excitement and engagement at the launch signal a bright future for this newest addition to the network family.


Boeing Hokies Host Summer Career Panel for Alumni and Student Interns

June 18, 2025

Boeing Hokies powered up year two with a dynamic, network-wide meet-up that united alumni, new hires, and Virginia Tech summer interns across the enterprise. The event marked the official launch of the expanded intern mentoring program, connecting interns with alumni mentors across the company. A spirited hybrid format linked on-site hubs and virtual participants from across the country, setting the stage for an energizing panel on career growth.

Leaders Pieter Einthoven, Nico Spitz, and Tyria Riley headlined a panel discussion and shared insights on career growth, mentorship, and how to thrive at Boeing. Attendees also heard highlights from recent network accomplishments and a preview of upcoming events designed to grow engagement and community. From inspiring stories to new connections, the event showcased the power of the Hokie network in action.


Capital One Hokies Networking Office Lunch

June 3-4, 2025

To kick off the summer, Capital One Hokies organized networking lunches at both the West Creek and McLean offices. The events brought together alumni to connect, share experiences, and explore the Capital One Hokie network. With many new faces in attendance, it was a great opportunity to build community and gather ideas for future engagements.


General Motors (GM) Hokie Network Professional Development Series Speaker

The GM Hokie Network launched its new professional development series with an inspiring kickoff event featuring Dr. Carol A. Mullen, Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech. This series is designed to support career growth at GM by bringing in Virginia Tech experts to share cutting-edge research, practical tools, and insights aligned with GM’s core behaviors and competencies.

Dr. Mullen’s session, "Flourish in Your Performance Culture Through Coaching," delivered an engaging and research-backed exploration of on-the-job coaching and effective feedback strategies. Attendees gained actionable tools for fostering a coaching mindset—whether working with peers, leaders, or direct reports—making the content valuable for every role and level across the organization.This dynamic start to the series set the tone for what’s to come: empowering employees with the knowledge to thrive and lead in GM’s performance culture.


Capital One hosts Virginia Tech graduate student visit.

Eleven Capital One associates volunteered to host 25 Masters of Engineering in Computer Science and Applications students from Virginia Tech's Innovation Campus. The guided tour of the Capital One home office located in McLean, VA allowed students to network and mingle with Virginia Tech alumni. Organizer Alejandro Cabrera said “the event was a great informal way in which alumni shared advice and insights into career journeys at Capital One.”  


A look at the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative with technology leader, Eric Burger

In celebration of Cyber Awareness Month, Virginia Tech alumni at Northrop Grumman gathered to learn about the impactful work of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI). With a focus on cybersecurity research, innovation, and workforce development, CCI is shaping Virginia’s digital future. Special guest Eric Burger, Research Director at CCI, shared insights on his role in securing mobile networks and Virginia Tech’s integral role in CCI. The event offered alumni a unique opportunity to connect and learn about cutting-edge research in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity.


General Motors Hokie Network Explores Transportation Innovation with Kevin Kefauver

The General Motors (GM) Hokie Network hosted an insightful session with Kevin Kefauver, Director of the Division of Data & Analytics at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI). Kefauver shared his expertise in advanced data analytics, machine learning, and simulation techniques driving the future of automated driving systems. He discussed VTTI’s innovative work in cross-referencing physical data with these simulations, an area of interest to alumni working with GM's virtual validating efforts. The event provided attendees a unique look into the cutting-edge research at VTTI and its impact on the future of transportation and autonomous vehicles.


Deloitte alumni engage with DEI leaders at their Fall Town Hall event

October 10, 2024

Alumni at Deloitte came together for an impactful Fall town hall to discuss Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the workplace and on Virginia Tech’s campus. In-person attendees at Deloitte’s Rosslyn office and virtual participants heard from Kelli Bakopanos, Managing Director at Deloitte, on social impact and equity, and Dr. Menah Pratt, Virginia Tech’s Vice President for Strategic Affairs and Diversity, on the importance of DEI on campus and in the workplace. Alumni were encouraged to get involved in DEI initiatives through volunteering, mentoring, and participating in programs at Deloitte or Virginia Tech, underscoring the power of collective action for change.


Google unveils Alumni Corporate Network with Hybrid Celebration

October 3, 2024

Google officially launched their Virginia Tech alumni corporate network. The hybrid celebration connected alumni online from across the U.S. to those in-person at the Mountain View campus. Attendees heard updates from Virginia Tech leaders Dan Sui and Lance Collins while engaging in conversations led by senior alumni leaders at Google including Greg Fitch and Jaishankar Sundararaman. The event was filled with food, drinks, and Hokie spirit, creating a vibrant atmosphere for alumni to connect and celebrate. This new Alumni Corporate Network at Google promises to be a great resource for alumni looking to stay connected to the university while building community within the tech industry.


Freddie Mac Hokies host Virginia Tech Bingo networking bash

The Freddie Mac Hokies hosted a fun and interactive Bingo Board event at their offices in McLean, VA.  Alumni had the chance to meet new faces and grow their professional network by sharing their Virginia Tech experiences in a relaxed, engaging setting. The goal? Fill out bingo cards by matching alumni to a Virginia Tech themed experience square on your board. The first to score five in a row were rewarded with exclusive Virginia Tech swag. It was a fantastic networking opportunity that brought the Hokie spirit to Freddie Mac and left everyone with new connections and memories.


Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University Alumni Connect at Newport News Shipbuilding Ahead of Big Football Showdown

September 12, 2024

Newport News Shipbuilding kicked off the football rivalry between Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University with a lively alumni networking event at Coastal Fermentory. Professionals from both schools came together to reconnect, share ideas, and expand their networks in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The evening was filled with good-natured banter, great conversations, and of course Hokie swag. A resounding success, the event left everyone excited for future networking opportunities and the big game ahead!
